Clarus 2R, Coda R return… for now

LIMITED EDITIONS. UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITY.

Coda R

Clarus 2R

At Acoustic Image, we keep a generous inventory of parts on hand to support our warranty commitments; but when it came to the recently discontinued Clarus 2R and Coda R, we went overboard, even by our standards.

So we’ve decided to build more of these two-channel products on a one-time basis — and to make them available at substantially reduced prices… $699 Street for the Clarus 2R and $999 Street for the Coda R.

These deals are effective immediately and only until the available parts inventory is exhausted.

These “Special Edition” versions are slightly different from those previously available. The Clarus 2R is mounted in the same chassis as the Clarus+ and is compatible with the Cabrio docking system used in our current combos (Ten2, Coda+ and Corus+) and our Cabrio-ready extension cabs. The Coda R features our new proprietary extended range 5-inch driver that eliminates the need for a tweeter., but does not have the Cabrio system. Both are rated at 400W into 4 ohms.

CODA, CORUS GET NEW PROPRIETARY DRIVER.

For us, the quest to get the most out our products is never-ending.

One recent example: for two years, we’ve worked with a major speaker manufacturer to develop an improved 5-inch front-firing driver that offers a wider frequency response and greater power handling than the one we have been using. This new extended range driver, exclusive to Acoustic Image, is also smoother and more detailed than our previously used midrange and tweeter combination—and offers higher power handling capability. As a result, the Coda and Corus models that use this driver will become two-way systems, with the tweeter eliminated.

When possible, using fewer speakers to cover the full frequency range is desirable because it reduces phasing and amplitude anomalies caused by crossovers in multi-speaker systems (translation: all things being equal, two-way systems are better than three-way). The resulting sonic change in the Coda and Corus in their new two-way configuration is subtle but noticeable. What’s more, the new driver uses a neodymium magnet which when combined with the eliminated tweeter reduces the weight of both combos by nearly two pounds.

We also recently worked with the same speaker manufacturer to develop a proprietary version of the tweeter used in the Ten2, generating an improvement in the overall smoothness of the frequency response there too.

All of the drivers that we use in our products are custom made for us to our specs and are available only in AI products.
